Thirteen Reasons I should stop smoking
Thirteen reasons I should stop smoking
.
1. It’s a waste of money. In my case about 20 Euros per month, which is not all too much, but could still go to better uses instead.
2. It makes my breath smell bad and turns my teeth a yellowish color, thus making me brush them much more than is probably good.
3. It gives me bad skin (as if I hadn’t enough problems with that already) and makes me look older.
4. I have these yellow stains between my forefinger and middle finger that don’t go away, no matter how hard I scrub.
5. It does definitely NOT look cool, at least not when I do it.
6. It is unhealthy and I really don’t wanna die of lung cancer when I’m 45.
Or 80, for that matter. I intend to live forever. So far, so good.
7. I hate to be addicted to anything.
8. It annoys other people around me (wait, now that could actually be an advantage sometimes!).
9. It’s a waste of time as well, I could read or write or do whatever instead.
10. It reduces my non-existent fitness level even further, I am short of breath and I imagine I feel cardiac pain sometimes. Ok, I do have a very lively imagination, so it’s probably not real pain yet, but it could be one day. I just don’t wanna wait that long.
11. I didn’t lose any weight through it. You know, how every smoker tells you that they eat so much less, because they are smoking all the time? Or that their metabolism works somehow differently and if they quit they would gain weight? Well, it’s all bullshit. Or they smoke a whole lot more than me, because I certainly didn’t lose any weight since I took up smoking.
12. It doesn’t have ANY discernible positive effect, so why bother?
13. I actually want to quit.

What worked for my husband – simply telling himself he was a non-smoker. . he finally believed it. . Good luck if you decide to become a non-smoker.
You should definitely quit! Smoking is so bad for your health. My humans are amazed at how many people smoke over here in Germany. Back home in Canada, smoking in public places has been banned, so fewer people are smoking. They can’t stand all the smoking in restaurants, malls, and other public places over here.
I quit a 17 year pack a day habit with the help of a hypnotist. He also happened to be a board-certified cardiologist, so he was able to simultaneously prescribe some delightful little happy pills (doled out in minute quantity, no risk of transferring my addiction) to help me get through the stress of those first few days.
I can’t tell you whether it was the hypnotism or stubborn resolve that worked, but it’s been nearly 8 years without one drag. I do still think about smoking, but don’t actually want to. Most of the time anyway. What helped the most though was his telling me to truly think of myself as an addict. Just as an alcoholic can’t have even that one drink, I can’t have even that one cigarette. If I do, I’ll be back to a pack a day within a week. Understanding that, and FEARING that, is what’s kept me on the straight and narrow ever since.
Good luck with your decision. You CAN do it if you really put your mind to it.
Good luck with quitting. It’s a great decision! And hey, you already listed all the reasons
If you are serious, you should print this and tape it to your cigarettes. Make yourself look at it every time you want a smoke. Even if it delays you for two minutes at first, it’ll pay off in the long run.
Best of luck with it! Happy TT and you’re right: why CAN’T a rock star be named Walter? I’ll try to get more about him up today.
My husband is going through the same thing. He wants to quit, but darn it, it’s just so hard! I can’t imagine being addicted to something like that. I guess I kind of equivalate it to quitting chocolate…I’m not sure that I could do it!
Good luck! Those are all good reasons to quit.
Wonderful, positive list, Samulli! I stopped many years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. And #11 is so true! I wish you the very best in your quest to stop smoking!
Those are all perfect reasons to give up smoking. I can spot a woman who smokes by the fine wrinkles around her mouth. Talk about aging a person. Good luck!
Ahh, #7 says it all! Giving the power of yourself to something else is a horrible feeling. I wish you much luck in your quest to take your life back from the grip of another.
I really hope you do quit! You loose 7 minutes of your life each time you light up.
Or so my daughter and her health class teacher says.
You should definitely quit! I quit 3 years ago. It’s not quite as hard as they say…not if you REALLY put your mind to it, anyway. It’s mind over matter…tell yourself it’s easy to quit and it will be! Good luck!!
Great list and I KNOW you can quit, because I did 15 years ago. You put it out there that you want to, so you are READY and YOU CAN! Remember, after about 21 days, the addiction is not physical, the nicotine is out of your body, but then you deal with the mental addiction. I wish you luck, but know that you can do anything you put your mind to. (((Hugs))))
Thanks that you all believe in me, guys!
)
I’ll give it my best shot.
Wanting to quit is a big part of the battle. I wish you luck.
huzzah! congrats on wanting to quit smoking. it’s a tough one, and nothing short of you WANTING to is going to give you that push you need. good luck!
LOL I’m always telling my dad to quit. He ignored me LOL
Good luck.
Aline
I’m slowly working the husband around towards quitting. Best of luck
Elena
I’ve never smoked but one thing I’ve noticed is that people I know who are trying to quit most often start smoking when having a drink in a smoking room in a bar with smokers.
Good luck with quitting!
