My first convert!

Hah!
Without even meaning to I just managed to convert the first of my friends to Firefly. This is amazing, and if you would know my friend you would know just how much a testament to the qualities of the show his becoming a fan is.
When I put on the DVD Friday night and we watched “Serenity”, the pilot episode, it was just because there was nothing interesting on TV and he had requested something funny. And although he seemed to quite enjoy it I didn’t expect any enthusiasm whatsoever from him. I have known him long enough now to be certain of his absolute unpredictability in pretty much any area.
So when we were bored yesterday and I suggested to watch another episode I was mildly surprised at his ready consent, but didn’t interpret it as any more than desperate boredom and lack of other ideas. And since I didn’t expect him to “endure” more than a few episodes before he completely zoned out and lost interest, I didn’t continue with the next episode (which would have been “The Train Job”), but skipped a few and put on “Safe” instead.
And, lo and behold, 40 minutes later he complained that it was over way too fast and told me to just go on to the next one. And the next one. And the one after that as well…
In the end we got up to “Trash” before we decided to stop because neither one of us could keep our eyes open anymore. And today he started to berate me for leaving out 3 episodes after the pilot, because he can’t stand the fact to miss anything. We even discussed if it would be better to watch those early episodes first before watching the last 3 ones he hasn’t seen so far. I can just see this is going to be another long night in front of the TV. Not that I’m complaining, though. LOL
In the car we even sung “The Hero of Canton”, which he had heard before on the drive back from the airport when I picked him up on Friday, but didn’t find terribly interesting then. Today, when he knew the context of the song he found it hilarious, of course.
It’s fantastic to see someone else just as excited about this show as I am myself. And I am almost envious that he can watch them now for the first time. There are still 6 episodes he hasn’t seen yet. And then, of course, there is the movie. Lucky sod.
It would be nice to be able to watch them for the first time all over again. But it is also great to watch them together with somebody else for the first time, to hear him laugh in all the right places and to just generally share the fun. And I’m curious what will happen when he has seen it all: will he want to start over right away, or will he maybe want to watch all 7 seasons of Buffy now - just to see what else Joss Whedon has to offer? Ah, the suspence!

  1. Believe it or not but I do the same. When I browse the internet and come across something interesting or I think I may be able to use in my blog, I keep in my files too.
    My T13 is up too.

  2. These are good. I enjoyed all of them. Have a great TT. :)

  3. Great quotes! In my present mood, I especially appreciated #5 (Sayle).

  4. I love collecting quotations and these are some great ones! I used to do a “quote of the day” post on my old blog. I might have to resurrect that concept.

Thanks for the smile after a long, somewhat brain-numbing work day. :)

    Happy TT!
