More purple prose
Joss has written another post on Whedonesque about the writers strike and what fans can do to help.
Just when I think I couldn’t love the guy any more…
I love it that they (the writers) appreciate their fanbase so much and I really hope somebody comes up with some online-based activities I can join from here to support them. Because as much as I would love to fly over to L.A. to do some picketing - with my depleted finances it just won’t happen (I can’t even afford this cute new laptop I fell in love with yesterday, but that’s another story altogether).
I also love the fact that in this case all the different fandoms band together and try to make a difference. It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of Joss’ shows, or of Battlestar Galactica, or of House (or, like me, of all of them and several more), not to mention LOST or Desperate Housewives or whatever other good shows there are - everybody who likes quality t.v. will by default be on the side of the writers, because they are the guys and gals that write those storylines we all have come to love. And of course they should be paid accordingly for their work. Which at the moment they aren’t. Which is why they strike.
Everybody who now thinks he won’t be affected by this strike and couldn’t care less one way or the other: just wait until you get only this stupid reality t.v. crap 24/7 - because that’s what it’ll come down to sooner or later if the strike will go on.
In Germany we really won’t be affected for a while yet, because with most shows we are one or two seasons behind anyway, so it will be another year before german t.v. stations will have to resort to reality t.v. or - just as bad - german shows. Or some more cookshows, if that’s still possible.
I can only say: thank god for DVDs in any case.
