It’s here. The wonderful two-disc Serenity Collector’s Edition.
And it’s great. “Shiny” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Not only does it have lots of fantastic extras (notably a new cast commentary and the River Tam Sessions, among much other great features), it also looks so much better than the original DVD (the german version was even worse).
I love the packing, I love the new artwork. So much so that I keep the DVDs on my desk where I can see it all day while I sit on my computer (which more or less really is all day long).
Also, I love the fact that it has a flyer from QMx inside (cool, cool merchandise! The Blue Sun travel posters and the Serenity Blueprints are mine for sure – as soon as I pay off the overdraft on my credit card.).

The new cast commentary with Joss, Nathan, Adam, Summer, and Ron is a blast. I stayed up until 2 a.m. the night I received the DVD to watch it. It was definitely worth losing a few hours of sleep for. Nathan and Joss are just hilarious, constantly teasing and making fun of each other and everyone around them. And Summer – I can’t even begin to express how sweet and shy and cute she sounds. If I were a guy I totally would have fallen in love with her then and there. Adam’s view of the whole movie was, not surprisingly, wholly centered around Jayne, which cracked me up more than once. (“It’s all about the grapes, man!” LOL) But the best thing was Nathan’s and Joss’ picking on Ron (who was hardly in the movie at all). They kept asking him about his thoughts about particular scenes and how he felt about his role in them – which, of course, was non-existent.
It was great to see how well they all get on with each other after all this time (the commentary was recorded in March this year, more than 2 years after filming the movie).

Plus, Joss said in an interview that hope for a possible sequel for the movie lies with the sales of this Collector’s Edition. So how could I not buy one? We all do still hope to get our Big Damn Trilogy someday, right? (Well, to be honest, I don’t have all that much hope for that happening, for various reasons. But I could be wrong. I have been wrong before…)

And you know what I’ll order next? This here:

The incredible documentary about the fans’ involvement with Serenity/Firefly. I’ve known about it for a while, and I always wanted to see it one day. It is such a work of love – just like the tv show and the movie themselves, really. I just wasn’t sure if I was obsessed enough to actually want to buy it. Guess that question’s settled then. ;)
