I agree that it is REALLY long (although in my eyes that is usually a plus) - maybe it could have been a bit shorter, but then the beautiful prose would surely have suffered. Maybe it was the difference in expectations we had before starting the book that made a difference in our opinion? I really didn't expect to like it all that much and so I could only be pleasantly surprised. For you it was exactly the other way around. ;) If you ever think about giving it another try, I can always lend you my copy. :) You are always welcome here – wether you share my opinion or not. :)

I've always been really 'into' everything that involves World War II, its' always been a personal interest. This book was so well written, and the story was so strong that I got lost in it.
