New Thursday 13 Headers added

Posted by samulli on Oct 6th, 2008

I know some of you are still doing the Thursday Thirteen meme each week (I usually am too lazy to think of a topic). I have added about 20 new headers on my T13 page. (In case you have seen the 5 Joker headers you have to scroll down to see the new ones, because I added them below those.)  Some autumn-themed ones should come in handy right about now. There are even some that could be fitting for a Halloween themed T13. But go and see for yourself.

There will be more, if I have time in the next few days. I also plan to organize them into categories, so if you are looking for a specific theme you won’t have to scroll through the whole list. If you are looking for specific themes, let me know and I’ll see what I can come up with. ;)

Pink for October

Posted by samulli on Oct 2nd, 2008

As usual I’m a little too late, and I don’t even know why I’m doing it in the first place, but today I spontaneously decided to color my blog pink for October this year. Even though I hate pink usually, but since it’s for a good cause I think I can bear it for a couple of weeks.

At least I put in a picture of Batman to keep it from going too all-out girly. Don’t think it helped a lot, though. ;) I know it’s not the bestest and most beautiful theme, but it was the easiest to pinkify from the ones I already had on my computer.

If you’re reading the blog in a feed reader, come over to take a look and tell me what you think. Or laugh at me - whatever comes more naturally to you. ;)

Who ate the last banana?

Ok, I promise I won’t turn into a food blogger, but since I use this blog more or less as a notepad and idea dump you will just have to endure food posts from time to time. Especially posts that do not go well with diets. Deal with it.

Now let’s get to the interesting part of this post: Banana Cream Pie. I never knew a thing like that existed. Oh joy.

My ignorance in this regard isn’t surprising, since pies in general are not exactly well-known in Germany. At least not in my family. I only learned of pies when I lived in New Zealand, so I still have some catching-up to do. Quite a lot, apparently.

Now, if somebody could explain to me the difference between whole wheat pastry flour, bread flour and just plain normal run-off-the-mill flour… The recipe looks like a bit of a pain in the behind, to be honest. Luckily I don’t get too hung up on recipes normally, I just regard them as general guidelines and make things up as I go along. Works fine, on the whole.

Interesting (or not) factoid about me: normally I don’t like fruitcakes. Or pies. Just anything with any kind of fruit in it, or on top of it. Or pretty much anywhere in the vicinity. The only exception until today was apple cake/pie. If there are no raisins in it, because raisins taste exactly like tadpoles to me. *yuck*

From the look of this pie, though, there will be another exception from now on. And another blog in my feed reader.

Spoilt rotten

I love spoilers, so I think this is brilliant. Wouldn’t actually want to wear it as a t-shirt, though. Too busy. But I can see it as a print on my wall… Just saying.

And I actually know all the movies it references. I am so proud of myself.

(found on Threadless, where you can also buy the shirt)

Time for Dexter!

Season 3 of Dexter starts today. I missed you, sweetheart!

(I would love to give credit for the photo, but I forgot where I found it)

Want!

I’m usually not a fan of Converse’s shoes - they’re overpriced and with their thin soles get really uncomfortable after a while for me. But these ones would tempt me seriously.

They are a limited anniversary model, made from vintage leather jackets. Only 168 pairs were made and they cost a trifling $380. So there goes any chance of me seriously contemplating actually buying a pair. (If I would ever sink that much money into a pair of shoes it would be proper hiking boots at least.)

But still, they look so damn comfy. And I can practically smell the leather…

Half a motorbike

Hm, is it just me or does this look a bit - how shall I put it - amputated?

Apparently this is the invention of an 18-year-old bloke from Canada, named Ben Gulak: The Uno.

It has zero emissions, a simple on off switch, and only one wheel (okay, technically it’s two wheels but they are really close together). And as you can see on the next picture, it does actually work.

As such, it is an awesome invention, the more so because the guy is just a teenager. I am deeply impressed. I’m pretty sure it works just fine, even though it looks like it would take some getting used to. From what I understand it works on a similar principle to the Segway (you know, the self-balancing stuff and shifting balance to accelerate or brake). The top speed theoretically is 40mph, which seems pretty sad for a bike. But since it’s powered by an electric motor it’s probably not too shabby.

But still… It’s all very nice to be sensible and eco-friendly and all, but this thing just doesn’t sing.

I’d still rather have the Bat Pod.
