I’m just figuratively scratching my head here. Feel free to ignore this post, if webdesign isn’t your thing.

I finally sat down today to fix that annoying IE 6 bug that screwed up my header design, shifting around my voodoo guy and making my blog title and tagline show up way too far down and interfere with the first post. In case you don’t use IE 6 (I bloody well hope you don’t) this is what it looked like:

I had avoided thinking about it, because I was afraid it would be some complicated thing to fix and I really have better things to do than make that awful, outdated browser do what it is supposed to.

But no. Turns out my worry was unnecessary for once.

All I had to do was change my little voodoo guy from being the background image of a div to a normal picture within the same div – which I had wanted to do anyway, so I would be able to link the picture back to the homepage. Imagine my surprise when that fixed the positioning problem of the title and tagline as well.

My only problem now is that I don’t understand why.

There are no floats involved and the title and tagline are positioned absolutely. Besides, the presence or absence or position of a background image shouldn’t have any influence on the position of other objects inside that div. At least, that’s what any sane person would expect, right?

So how the hell does this bloody IE 6 manage to screw it up in the first place? And why is it fixed if I change the way the voodoo picture is included?

I’m sure there is a logical explanation for this. I just can’t see it and that drives me bonkers.

I am finally back from my hiatus. And I brought a new blog design with me.

I wasn’t working on that the whole time, obviously (not even I am that slow), but it took me longer than expected to iron out the bugs. There are still some issues with IE6, which I might get around to fixing soon – or maybe not, I don’t know. IE6 is just generally so annoying that I don’t know if I can be bothered with it here on my private little site.

Anyway, if you’re reading this in your RSS reader, come on over to the blog for a sec and tell me what you think. Let me know if there is any weirdness in any browser (you know, the kind of weirdness that doesn’t look like it was done on purpose…).

In other news: there might be a few changes around here contentwise – one of them being that there will be more content again, hopefully. I’m not quite sure yet in which direction I’d like to take this blog, but I have some half-baked ideas I will try to get around to soon.

There have already been quite a few changes in my life recently, but I won’t go into that now. For now I am just happy the blog is up and running again, looking like I wanted it to. That must be enough for today.

Could you match each of them to a feeling? Well, I couldn’t. I am not even sure if I could name 99 different feelings. But that’s not really the point anyway. I just find them perfectly adorable.
Wow. I wish I had even a shred of the flash knowledge as the person who designed the website of the Funnel Design Group.

Not only is it crazily detailed, the little guy in the middle actually moves, when you click one of the buttons. I could have played with that thing for ages. Again, I love the little sound effects every action elicits. And that porthole is fantastic as well.

Besides, any site that has Glenn Miller playing as background music has won me over already. I actually left the website open in the background to go on listen to the music, before I remembered that I have that song on my hard drive. (For all you not swing-loving people out there: the off-switch for the music is in the lower right-hand corner, although switching off that song is a sacrilege…)

*sigh* I really have to start learning how to work with Flash now. I want to be able to make stuff like that myself. As if Ihadn’t enough on my plate already…
